Religious right. Meet your (former) candidate for the Australian Federal Election.

One photo shows him exposing his private parts as he takes a picture of himself in a mirror.

"But that's not my penis," he said. So whose was it?

"Look, maybe somebody photoshopped it, and put another one on the photo," he said. "I can tell you, it's not me. I know these things. But really, I can't remember … All I know, I have been humiliated."
Annabel Crabb would have to be my favourite writer from the Fairfax stable. Witty, informed, on the ball, and most importantly she possesses the ability to push every button to communicate her points to the masses... I love this little quote.

"Now there are many nice things that can be said about the Prime Minister. He is courteous, in the main. He is an excellent father, by all accounts. He knows how to hug.

But his above statement is not true. In fact, "not true" is far too pedestrian a descriptor. It is gloriously, demonstrably, hilariously, chest-beatingly, somersault-turningly, sky-writingly, floor-rollingly, operatically untrue."

Check out her reporting on the Australian Federal Election (and more) right here... http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/annabelcrabb/
Flickr spins out some amazing photography, but also some unique visual imagery. Check out Processwhite's "i-men" set. Creativity with mirrors and web cam. Pretty cool way to spend a few minutes.
John Birmingham writes about the topic no politician has the 'guts' for. Zombie control. Surprisingly, GWB has taken the world-wide initiative on this topic - no wonder he has no time for climate control or Iraq.

According to JiWire, Brisbane CBD has 2 free Wi-Fi providers. Now, this is obviously a faulty indicator of the Wi-Fi status in Brissie, there's the free (but limited Wi-Fi at BCC Brisbane Square Library), but that's about it. Time to go hit the paid-services at F&B providers... :(
A quick snapshot of life back in Brisbane for our Shanghai mates. More photos via the jump.
Old boy sinks the boot into the Rugby hype... One of my faves from the rant....

"Then there's the bizarre additions to the game like lifting in line-outs. I mean whatever happened to actually jumping? You might as well take a dwarf out there and toss 'em in the air to catch the footy."
Wallabies skipper Stirling Mortlock comes in at #4. Commenter comes in with this pearler...

"i went to high school with stirling mortlock's cousin and i met him once it was like talking to a gigantic brick of testosterone"

In other news, Stirling rounded up the field with 'most reliable penalty converter in World Rugby'.
Awesome writing from Aaron Timms regarding our World Cup loss to Engulund. My favourite part...

"Like uranium or bauxite, fat people are a resource."
For my Brisbane friends. If you feel like helping out our little hobby business, feel free to come along this weekend to our new place.

Details via the jump!
My bike lust is really in its infancy, but this Wired article caught my eye. The retro-inspired look back to past technologies causing a resurgence for steel bikes?

Is someone in China reading this? You could make a killing.
Gateway 'takes inspiration' from Apple's iMac range, and makes it their own. Wall mountable would be awesome.
I just wish my cool city bike would turn up. C'mon port people! Where are our bikes?!

My Oz ISP's (dodo) Speedtest Result - Makes Shanghai Look OK.

I've been grumbling for the past few weeks about the lack of internet access and free Wi-Fi points around Brisbane. Well, I'm grumbling no longer. After wrangling with our ISP, we've finally got ADSL2+ connected at our eco-friendly residence. One mildly amusing outcome from our buzz about getting the ADSL2+ connected was the response from our otherwise early to bed, early to rise flatmates. Transfixed on the internet, they stayed up over 2 hours past their usual bed-time. Ironically for Linda, with her usually annoyed by slow dial-up speeds at our sustainable household, is now annoyed by the flood of computer updates inundating her system. I checked out my ISP plan (Up to 24576/1024kbps) which should theoretically outperform the China Telecom plan (2Mbps/512kbps) I had back in Shanghai. But one thing I noticed above, is that with all the speed tests that I performed to US, European and UK websites, that my new ISP is much slower to international sites than China Telecom. That includes throwing in the GFW of China into the mix! Bow your head in shame Australia. Your ADSL is slow, expensive, and even China (well, OK, Shanghai, China) can outstrip us in technological capacity to the rest of the world.
You know when you've made it when you have your own spoof site. Well done http://www.shanghaiist.com/">Shanghaiist!
