I'm completely stuffed - both mentally, physically & sinus-wise. yep, it wouldn't be the BDO without some kind of music-festival derived head cold. It was a fantastic day - and perhaps one of the best I've been to.

The day started out at Barry & Stacey's holiday apartment at Burleigh. A quick debate about bus vs. car, stocking up on cash & supplies, and we were ready for the day ahead.

Previously under-TimmyB rated artist that surprised me - Diana Anaid
Yep, first act of the day, and I was really impressed. Its not that I disliked her music, but it never really caught me. Sitting down and listening to lyrics usually isn't my strong point - music mostly is a tool to change my mood. I was pleasantly surprised by Diana, so I'll keep her in mind for the future.

Surprise act of my day - Atmosphere
First I've heard of this BDO act. Atmosphere had a great stage presence, prowling the stage (& later on the floor) like a big cat. Really elegant form of hip-hop fused with punk/Rollins' style spoken word. Really impressive.

Top picks.
Powderfinger, The Beastie Boys, Little Birdie, The Donnas, The Mess Hall, The Streets, Butterfingers, & The Hives.

Pissed Off About...
Not getting to see the Hilltop Hoods. Despite getting there early, there was in no way any chance of getting into the HotHouse. That really sucked. Nice consolation prize in the form of The Streets & Butterfingers. Its just not the same though.

Pleasantly surprised about...
No dud acts. Last time it was 'The Dandy Warhols' - their music really didn't come off on the Blue Stage at Gold Coast - sounded awful compared to their studio-recorded tracks - stage setup? Who knows. This year, there was no acts I managed to see that didn't put in a polished performance. Very noice.

Really surprised about...
Driving to the venue, parking for $5 all day, and then leaving Parklands and arriving back in Burleigh Heads in about 20 minutes. That's unbelievable. But true. Skipping out after 'The Beastie Boys' had finished and a little way through 'The Chemical Brother's' set was probably a determining factor, but it sure beats the packed in bus system that was setup.

I managed to miss out on these bands - just too much conflict. Like Linda said, why can't they just make it into 2 medium-sized days out? I concur.
(Jon Spencer) Blues Explosion, System of a Down, Scribe & P Money, Frenzal Rhomb and Evermore

Fell in love with all over again...
Govinda's Hare Krishna Food &amp the Hungarian L?°gos fried bread. oh yeah...

Re-experiencing brought up all those bitter memories...

Lining up for alcohol.
Two consecutive VIP passes had blanketed the experience from my memory. Poor Stace & Barry had to wait for almost 30 minutes at one stage to get tickets from the Main Stage bar area. Hitting the bar at the main entrance was a stroke of good fortune on my part - I'd suggest hitting that in future.

Toilets/sewers/open wounds/oh the humanity.
I don't need to describe any more here do I?

Not all that keen on...

Virgin Mobile SMS Scroll action - just an excuse for dickheads to get their 150 word characters or less of fame. I hope it paid for that 5c guy down at the Virgin Mobile tent. That's kooky.

Fokasses sitting on the wall in front of me. Well, 'Shell might think otherwise.

So that's it for another BDO. I've finally deciding that I've mastered sunprotection (slightly pink on the back of my neck, no other burns - oh yeah). And I'm also quite glad that I missed out on any info regarding She-Pee experiences (the girls decided less experience is definitely a more).
