Yeah, it might be considered geeky whipping out your Powerbook on the plane and looking all important (well at least to the old Chinese guy peering at my on my left), but hey, the in-flight movies are pretty awful.... It's mainly to say thanks and to let people know that we're really appreciative of the support and encouragement given to Lin & myself following our decision to relocate to Shanghai.... In typical airport style, the flight was 'temporarily delayed', which fortunately allowed us the time to get our poo in one sock and take a huge breath.... Following my last blog entry, I realised I had completely bollocked up my packing and spent most of the night madly stacking, filing, binning, and cramming my stuff into a backpack, a carry-on, and 5 tea-chests (which M&D will so kindly forward onto Shanghai for me & Lin at a later date - thanks Parental Units!... All I can say is that Lin & I are both really happy to have left Australia on our travels, but we're fully appreciative that we have left the closeness of family and friends behind in Brisneyland.

We have another 4 hours before we land in Shanghai. There's enough time to watch a couple of more movies and perhaps also a start on a few more entries. Yeah, it might be considered geeky whipping out your Powerbook on the plane and looking all important (well at least to the old Chinese guy peering at my on my left), but hey, the in-flight movies are pretty awful. Mind you, I've already struck up one conversation in-transit with a fellow PowerBook owner, so this activity is definitely an ice-breaker. I'm sure we have both been lured by the same Apple spell.

Nonetheless, an Apple-prattle isn't the aim of this entry. It's mainly to say thanks and to let people know that we're really appreciative of the support and encouragement given to Lin & myself following our decision to relocate to Shanghai. We are currently a long way above the planet, somewhere north of Indonesia, about 2500 miles away from our starting point in fair Brisvegas. Our flight has been uneventful so far with just a few anxious moments encountered during our dash from Sydney's Domestic to International terminal. Picking up our TRS refunds and duty-free booze on the way, we finally made it to our gate. In typical airport style, the flight was 'temporarily delayed', which fortunately allowed us the time to get our poo in one sock and take a huge breath. This also allowed me to confirm our hotel booking, which was a whole other event in itself. I think breaking through the language barrier is going to be a little more difficult and a lot more fun that what I had first thought. ;)

Speaking for myself, I've had a hectic past 24 hours. Following my last blog entry, I realised I had completely bollocked up my packing and spent most of the night madly stacking, filing, binning, and cramming my stuff into a backpack, a carry-on, and 5 tea-chests (which M&D will so kindly forward onto Shanghai for me & Lin at a later date - thanks Parental Units! Love you guys). Powering on with a strong cup of coffee and 2 hours sleep, the Beckenham Clan ambled out of KD at 5:30am and made our way to meet up with the Edwards sister consortium at BNE Airport. Christine & Jess turned up to say farewell, so I must thank you both for dragging yourselves out of bed beyond the call of friendship. It meant a lot to both of us. There were numerous photos taken, followed by a brief but teary farewell. That was expected, however, its never really something you get used to experiencing. All I can say is that Lin & I are both really happy to have left Australia on our travels, but we're fully appreciative that we have left the closeness of family and friends behind in Brisneyland. We're all going to miss you so much, and we're expecting a constant parade of people ramming through our apartment during the spring and summer months in Shanghai. Luckily, the minor time-zone difference will make communication with the Australian East Coast fairly convenient.

We are fully aware that our big adventure has begun. As has the first bout of turbulence.

        Hello Bombo & Linda!

What a weird little world it is here without you, bro. I keep expecting you to lob in the front door. But it was so great to see your blog and emails. We couldn't get online until just now and I have caught dad's shitty cold, so this won't be long.

Did you put the envelope Dan & I gave you somewhere safe? The contents should help a little.

M&D are slumping around the house. They really miss you already. I am doing my best, but the irreverence is really your bag, Tim.

Keep groovin' dudes and enjoy the newness of it all.

Lots and lots of love
Irreverence is my bag? I thought you said it was dorkiness...?

I miss you all already. I'm going to miss beers on the front patio with Da & DannyJ, my regular sister annoyance perks, and Mum chatting to Nigel. Please know that you're in my mind and heart wherever I am, and right now I feel that you're all with me here experiencing the all the wonder and throat-clearing that is Shanghai.

Love you guys...
